A Teacher's Guide to Public Library Services

Teacher Packs
Call your local library one week in advance to request a selection of books to check out for your classroom.  Seasonal items may be limited due to popular demand.

We can put together lists of materials on a particular topic for groups.  Contact the Children's Department at 419-521-3130 or your local branch at least one month in advance to request a booklist.

Training on early literacy skills, using library materials and databases in the classroom, or other topics related to the library and reading is available at your location or in the Library. Great for parent groups, teacher in-service, or special school events. Contact the Children's Department at 419-522-3030 or your local branch to schedule a speaker or workshop for your group.

Programs for Students
These enrichment programs will enhance your students’ understanding of lessons taught in the classroom. Call your local library at least three weeks in advance to schedule a program.

Booktalks: Get your students excited about reading with booktalks from a selection of books on a theme of your choice.
Library Orientation: Discover the resources available at the library and learn how to find them with a guided tour and introduction.
Class Research Projects: Bring your class to the Library to research those special projects via the library's electronic resources.

Library Web Site
The library's web site at is a great place to begin looking for help with lesson plans. You can access our library catalog to see what materials are available on your subject.

Research Databases
The library has several research databases available on our web site that can be used to find valid resources for assignments or lesson plans right from school or home. Information from magazines, journals, newspapers, reference books, and even test prep sources can be found. You will need your library card number to access these databases.
