Located by the Learning Lab on the 2nd floor of the Main Library, our laptop kiosk is open for self-service for anyone who is 18+ with a valid MRCPL library card. Six laptops are housed in slots that clear personal information, charge, and secure the laptop until it is checked out. Each laptop is checked out for 2-hour increments and must be returned 15 minutes before closing time.
Laptops can be used in any public space within the Library but must remain in the building.
The laptops have internet access, Microsoft Office Suite, and a connection to our public Print Release stations throughout the library.
Will I get a receipt for borrowing a laptop?
Once the laptop is ejected, a receipt will automatically be sent to the email address in your library account. The email will be sent from email@example.com and the receipt will include your library card number, the location of the kiosk, the date/time of checkout, and the time that it is due back.
Are there late fees?
The library charges $1 per late hour with a maximum fine of $20.00. Laptops not returned within 2 days will be deemed lost and the replacement cost will be added to your account.
What do I do if the laptop is not functioning properly when I borrow it?
Please notify the Learning Lab or Reference staff if there are any issues with the laptop.
Why are some of the laptops not able to be borrowed?
A laptop cannot be borrowed while it is being charged or if one was reported as damaged. Charging laptops will be yellow on the kiosk screen.
Can I store data on the laptop temporarily?
Yes however we recommend that you use an external storage device and save your work there. If the laptop reboots at any point while checked out, all data stored directly on the laptop will be lost.
Can I put a laptop on hold?
Laptops are available on a first-come, first-served basis so holds are not available.
