The Freading Ebook Service is a downloadable ebook service for free use by registered library cardholders.
Freading offers ebooks in a variety of genres. You can download the Freading app to your compatible mobile device, or go to M/RCPL's Freading webpage to view, download and read your book on a computer.
(Some mobile devices aren't directly compatible, but ebooks can be side-loaded to these through the Adobe Digital editions app. For more information, click here.)
You'll need your library card and PIN to get started.
Freading uses Adobe Digital Editions software, on a computer or an app, so you will also need an Adobe ID. If you don't have one, visit the Adobe web site to set one up.
Things you Should Know:
When you log in to the Freading service with your library card and PIN, you'll see an explanation of how Freading works. Freading is slightly different from our other digital resources.
Each week, every customer gets 6 "tokens" to "spend" on Freading ebooks. Freading ebooks have a "cost" of a certain number of tokens per book. When you download a book, the cost of that book will be deducted from your total.
This means that if your use all of your tokens one week, you may have to wait until the next week to download and read your book.
Unused tokens roll over to the next week; after 4 weeks, unused tokens expire.

The Nook, Sony Reader and Kobo readers can be used with Freading ebooks, but the books will have to be loaded through a computer connection and Adobe Digital Editions.
