This 2017 “The Magic School Bus Rides Again” remake of the classic 1994 “The Magic School Bus” deserves a solid B. The theme song will really appeal to kids of all ages, and it gives you a sneak peak into what the classroom full of kids experiences during each episode. Every episode introduces a scientific concept and allows the school kids to experience and learn about that particular concept in a fun and educational way.
The new Ms Frizzle is the younger sister to the original Miss Frizzle, who plays a cameo role. The magical passing of the school bus keys was fun and exciting for little ones. The first episode titled Frizzle of the Future was all about ecosystems. The classroom itself was an ecosystem where everything has a role to play and it keeps everything stable. There is a new girl named Jyoti and a new teacher which bothers the student named Arnold, who doesn’t like change. He makes a mistake and they spend the episode discovering the problem and fixing the problem.
The second episode was titled Pigs in the Wild. It was a modern take on an old classic of the 3 Little Pigs. It was transformed into a play called The Sty in the Sky where the kids learned about the effects wind has on buildings and how planes fly by seeing the wind currents through magical glasses. Most of the kids turn into trees and get to experience a blustery windy day. It introduces new words like “aeroelastic” and explains what that means in a kid friendly way.
The third episode was titled In The Swim and starts off with snow ball fights but ends up in Hawaii swimming with a bluestripe snapper fish named Becca, as named by Wanda. She was very worried about how a little lonely fish could survive on her own so Ms Frizzle taught them about swimming in schools and how that can protect them from large predators.
In conclusion, I believe the whole family will appreciate the remade Magic School Bus series. It’s going to be a very nostalgic TV series for those that watched the original series. Being updated and current to appeal to kids today, it’s a fun time for all, so check it out today!
