Zoo Story Time Starter

Enjoy these books and songs about some of our favorite zoo animals!

I Went to the Zoo
(tune: My Bonnie Lies over the Ocean)
I went to the zoo to see lions (hands up)
Elephants and tigers and bears (hands down, hands up, hands down)
I went to the zoo to see zebras (hands up)
I love all the animals there (hands up)
Lions, tigers, elephants, zebras and bears and bears (d,u,d,u,d,u)
Lions, tigers, elephants zebras and bears (d,u,d,u,d)

Raise and lower your arms when you hear an animal… for example hands up at “lions” and hands down at “elephants” and hands up again for tigers.”

Five Little Monkeys Swinging in the Tree
Five little monkeys, swinging in a tree
Teasing Mr. Alligator, “Can’t catch me!”
Along comes Mr. Alligator, quiet as can be and
SNAPS that monkey out of the tree!

Repeat with four, three, etc.

The Animals at the Zoo
(tune: The Wheels on the Bus)
The lions at the zoo go roar, roar, roar,
roar, roar, roar,
roar, roar, roar
The lions at the zoo go roar, roar, roar, All day long!
The snakes at the zoo go hiss
The penguins at the zoo go waddle
The monkeys at the zoo go oooh

Colorful Lion – Color the lion with crayons or markers. Cut out the circle. Use your scissors to cut/snip along the dotted lines to make the mane. Now take your lion and practice your ROAR! Great activity to practice scissor skills!

Early Literacy Tip
Why not try another fun pop-up book like Dear Zoo? Pop-ups are often read over and over as they are engaging and exciting to explore! When you re-read a book, the repetition strengthens vocabulary.
