De-stressing with Your Library

November 18, 2020

November is upon us already, and we all know a much-needed break is due. A me-time sort of break. A break away from the “new” daily routine. A time out, because if I had to choose one word to describe 2020 (and geez, where do I start?) I think I’d go with STRESSFUL.

Yes, I hear those claps in the back. I see that raised microwaved-warmed-up-for-the-third-time mug of coffee.

With murder hornets, COVID-19, stay at home orders, and long-distance learning (and don’t even mention The Election), I think we’ve all earned a breather. A break from reality. It’s time to de-stress just in time to gear up for the holidays.

That’s right, THE holidays.

What?! (Shut my mouth.)

But hold on. Let’s all take a few breaths….1...2...3.

Take one more…

Now, back to your me-time. Whether it’s a little break before the festivities or sneaking in some alone time during all the family time (wink-wink), the library is here to help with a little something for everyone. Adults, teens, and kids can find ways to de-stress, either alone or together.

Enjoy a fun BINGO adventure with the library’s Monthly Movie Mania and enter for a chance to win a prize. Using your library card, peruse our eMagazine collection from the comfort of your home, and catch up on the latest US gossip and fads in Women’s World, relax with the current issue of Bird Watching, or get a head start on holiday meals with Martha Stewart Living. Or better yet, looking to join a book club? Check-in with your local branch to find out more about their monthly clubs or join the library’s virtual book club here. Like to craft? The library is still offering craft activities, but with a social-distancing look. Starting November 23rd, reserve your spot by calling your home branch to sign up for the next Crafty Attic activity, create a holiday ornament. Need a laugh? De-stress with a few of these latest must-reads:

The Teen Zone is still up and running, featuring month-long DIY crafts. While supplies last, those in grades 4-12 are welcome to stop in and pick up craft kits for Glittery Glass Votive Candle Holders and No-Hassle Tassel Key Chains. And while you’re there, pick up a Cubee or two to create at home. Check out the website’s teen page for more details. Need a break from learning all the school things? Have fun with our launchpads or video games collections. Or lose yourself in the latest popular books, like….

Keep your eye open for a few in-house programs and story times. In accordance with the new safety guidelines, limited registration is required. Please call the branch library to sign up for December’s Reindeer Games, or stop in at any location and pick up a packet to take home. Our virtual story times are new every Tuesday at 10 am, so please join our children’s department in sharing a story and a craft. Feel free to download the packet from home or visit your local library to pick one up. We’re also ready to celebrate Thanksgiving, and each location is hosting a holiday scavenger hunt and a Turkey Coloring contest. For kids in grades Pre-K-5, stop in or print your own from the website, decorate it, and return to the library by November 30. Entries will be judged in three groups. And don’t forget, we have launchpads for the younger ones too, all pre-loaded with activities like read-alongs, videos, and learning apps. Next time you visit us, check out the children’s music collection for some easy car listening or ask about books related to at-home activities, or de-stressing ideas for the little ones.
