Picture Book Biographies
By Miss Jennifer at the Main Library

I LOVE picture book biographies.  I frequently recommend them to families and teachers as they are engaging, entertaining and informative. The illustrations are marvelous and help tell each story.  I am going to highlight some of my recent discoveries. Be sure to check them out!

Buzzing with Questions:  The Inquisitive Mind of Charles Henry Turner by Janice N. Harrington
Charles Henry Turner's mind was always filled with questions.  He was fascinated by bugs. He asked many questions about them.  Can spiders learn?  Do bugs see color? How do ants find their way home?  Despite being faced with racial prejudice, he did not stop wondering and questioning. He became a "pathbreaking African American entomologist." You will want to read this book and learn more about this inquisitive trailblazer.

Madame Saqui Revolutionary Rope Dancer by Lisa Robinson and Rebecca Green
In this great read, you will follow Marguerite's dream to become a tightrope dancer. Set during the late 1700's -early/mid 1800s, she completed amazing feats throughout her lifetime despite hardships and "society imposed constraints on women."  This book is a great opportunity to learn about an interesting woman whose story is not widely known.

Through the Wardrobe: How C.S. Lewis Created Narnia by Lina Maslo
C.S. Lewis stories are loved by many all over the world.  Have you ever wondered how he created the world of Narnia?   Read about his life and discover what inspired him to create "a world of battles between good and evil, where people learned courage and love and forgiveness."
