We made our first COVID-19 related announcement on March 13, cancelling all programs through April 3. By March 16, we were announcing the indefinite closure of all of our library locations. These changes came quickly and we were making big decisions about how we were handling the situation quicker than we had initially thought possible.
We've shared so much information in the past few months and we realize it can be a lot to sort through so we’ve compiled the most important information and resources all in one place to make it a little bit easier to find what you’re looking for from us! We will continue to add to this page as we develop more virtual resources.
We have a web page dedicated to all of our most current information regarding closures and cancellations, curbside services, safety, and resources. We are continually updating this page as we have more information available. If you have any questions, please visit mrcpl.org/covid-19. If you still have questions, message us on social media or email email@example.com.
The last time that we had to close due to a pandemic was in 1918. Thankfully over 100 years later, we have more resources for virtual services than ever before! Our Sherman Room, Jayson, detailed the last pandemic closure in one of his weekly Sherman Room blog posts! Find a new local history story every Saturday evening on our Facebook page!
We talk about our digital resources and apps that are available with your library card a lot. There are so many options and it can be overwhelming but we hope that you have found a resource or two that works for you! Do you miss getting recommendations from your favorite library staff members? Check out the Libby and CloudLibrary apps for a special “Staff Picks” book recommendation list!
Missing your local story time? We have been posting a new story every Tuesday and Thursday morning on our story time page on our website! During our closure, we also hosted a Local Author Story Time on Facebook! We had 7 authors share their stories and we put them all in a playlist on our Facebook page. Check them out here!
We are now offering curbside service at all 9 locations! To take advantage of this service, please place your requested items on hold through our online catalog or call your local library location to request items. Once you have received a notification that your items are available for pick-up, come to your selected location for curbside pick-up. There will be marked signs with further instructions at each location. Find more information about our curbside services here. Starting Monday, June 1, we are also offering curbside printing services. See what we can and cannot print here.
In case you missed the announcement, with the current social distancing practices in place and large gatherings being limited, we've made the difficult decision to cancel our 2020 Summer Library Program. We are already working on alternate ways we can continue to help you and your family stay active and engaged during the summer months. We will be announcing more details and information as the plans develop so please continue to check our website and social media for updates.
Need some reading suggestions? We've created summer reading lists for all ages!
If you’re tired of scrolling through social media, check out this list of fun and creative websites for all ages that we compiled! There are virtual tours or museums and parks, digital concerts, more story times by celebrities, craft tutorials, and more!
Have you missed showing off your library love on your Instagram stories (or anywhere you can use a GIPHY keyboard) while our buildings have been closed? We've got something for you! We have a collection of MRCPL gifs available! When you're creating an Instagram story, search for MRCPL in the gif search bar at the top and you'll find our collection! Check out our full collection on the GIPHY website. We can't wait to see how you use them--be sure to tag us!
We miss having our programs and seeing our community. While our buildings are closed, join us on Facebook for some book and movie discussions! The first Wednesday of every month from 7-8 PM, we host our Paging All Readers post where you can share what you’re reading and get ideas from our other Facebook followers! On the third Thursday of each month from 7-8 PM, our AV staff hosts a chat about music, movies, and video games! Join in and share what you’re watching or listening to or playing! Simply look for the post on our Facebook page during the allotted time and join in the conversation in the comments section!
We are working hard to continue to provide relevant and engaging programming even with our physical locations being closed to the public. Thank you for sticking with us and being patient with us as we are all figuring out our temporary “normal.” We will be talking about our upcoming ways to stay connected soon so be sure to follow us on social media for the most recent updates.« Back to Blog
