Spiderman: Far From Home Review
Read below for the quick overview with no spoilers!
Did I like it?: It was super cute, but I can see why some people are disappointed with it. When going into this movie don’t expect the action of Endgame because it’s not there. I think that this movie is a good break from the super serious movies and does a good job of re-aligning the MCU.
Themes: Kick-butt action, plucky puns, big explosions, dark humor, aliens, multi-verse, spies, coming-of-age story, fiendish foes, super smart people, technology, and new romances
Short Summary (No spoilers): Peter Parker, also known as Spiderman, must come to terms with himself and the world after being absent for 5 years.
Favorite thing about it?: Edith
Below is my review, spoilers may pop up here, so don't read it if you haven't watched it >.<
Like, I said above… I can see why people didn’t like it. BUT I DID. So I am just going to give my review.
Peter Parker has returned after 5 years of being in oblivion and then one more year of high school. So, when this movie picks up it’s one year after Endgame. Peter is inexplicably in love with MJ and the whole first part of the movie is him avoiding his responsibilities as Spiderman and trying to impress MJ.
I get it. I do. Boy meets girl. Boy likes girl. Boy buys girl super expensive present and then tells her he likes her on top of the Eiffel Tower… So sweet, right? However, Peter’s crush on MJ was a driving force in this movie and I just didn’t feel it. I didn’t see the development of feelings between the two… I just never had a feel for the romance the entire movie which was sad since it was so important.
I really liked how much comedy they integrated into this movie. After the MCU lost Ironman and Cap it’s nice to return to the fun themes of movies like Ragnarok and GOTG.
I also liked how all of the side characters played a role in this movie as well. I didn’t think the entire academic decathlon team was going to come back but they did.
I was even down the Mysterio. I mean... I wasn’t in love with the big reveal about how it was all an illusion, but I digress. The character himself was interesting and crazy. One thing I could have done without though were all the trippy illusion sequences… Why were those necessary!? Especially with his super long-winded speeches in the background?
All-in-all I think this movie is worth seeing. If you don’t watch the first 15 minutes of the movie you aren’t going to know what the “Blip” is and I know it will be super important for the rest of the MCU movies.
Also, side note – did you see both ending scenes?
The second one was marvelous!
Anyways, long story short – I liked it. What about you?« Back to Blog
