Once Upon a Star by James Carter is a wonderful poetry book about space that goes along perfectly with our Summer Library Program theme of A Universe of Stories. The book explains through rhyme how the universe began. It also includes “sciencey stuff” written as an acrostic poem such as “The sun, our star, was born in a nebula almost five billion years ago.” This a great introduction for children about how stars like the sun are formed. The cover and the illustrations are eye-catching and vibrant. Children will enjoy learning about stars in a simple poetic way.
