School is out, but all the skills your child needs to be a successful student should be encouraged throughout the summer months. Reading is important, of course, and we have a Summer Library Program that helps keep those skills up (for kids, teens, and adults!). For school-aged children, we also promote writing, drawing, playing, and doing activities during the summer.
We've compiled some great resources that you could use to help your child build their writing skills and practice writing creatively.
300 Fun Writing Prompts for Kids: Story Starters, Journal Prompts & Ideas
50 Creative Writing Topics for kids
Writing Advice, Prompts, and Lessons from children's author Frances O'Roark Dowell
Scholastic Story Starters: Adventure, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Scrambler
Free Downloadable E-book for Teachers: 36 Workshops to Get Kids Writing: From Aliens to Zebras
We've got many other resources for families and teachers that you can check out, so stop by the library to see how we can help motivate your child to build some superior writing skills this summer!
