Louisiana’s Way Home by Kate DiCamillo
From Miss Melia at Main Library

I love Kate DiCamillo. She seems like such a nice person and is a great author. So any book she writes is immediately on my radar--Louisiana's Way Home being no exception!

The story's main character, Louisiana, was first introduced in Raymie Nightingale Somewhat frail and slightly dramatic, she lives with her eccentric grandmother in Lister, Florida. When Granny wakes her up in the middle of the night, stating they must leave, Louisiana doesn't think it's forever. But, Granny insists it is. Through a few incidents and many emotions, the runaway duo ends up in Richford, Georgia. After settling in for what Louisiana hopes is just a long pit stop, she decides to explore her surroundings. New people, a new place, and a sick Granny make Louisiana long fiercely for home. But everything takes a wild turn when Granny goes missing and Louisiana is left with a letter that changes her world. Not knowing where to go or who to trust, the poor girl falls into a pit of despair--literally. With the help of a few new friends and the thought that her life is made up of good-byes, Louisiana searches for the answers to who she is and where she belongs.

Full of humor, misfortune, tears, and audacity, Louisiana's Way Home is a heartwarming story that will captive you until the end!
