Fallingwater: The Building of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Masterpiece by Marc Harshman and Anna Egan Smucker
From Miss Melia at Main Library
If you have never read about famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater house, please read this book! What a great literary nonfiction title, full of beautiful illustrations and flowing prose!
Frank Lloyd Wright is well known for his beautiful, complex, and innovative structures--he designed over 1,000 of them! One structure, Fallingwater, is built over a waterfall and is one of Wright’s most famous designs. A stunning architectural feat, this house is one of a kind. It all started when department store owner Edgar Kaufmann wanted a house in the Pennsylvania wilderness and asked aging Wright to visit a forest site beside a rushing waterfall. Wright dreamed of building a house by a waterfall and took the chance. What he designed was much more than Kaufmann hoped for and a masterpiece was born. The story follows Wright through the planning, designing, and finally building of the house, and ends with a special visit once it's complete.
Fallingwater authors Marc Harshman and Anna Egan Smucker do an awesome job of telling the house’s story from very start to finish and beyond, with informative author’s notes at the end of the book. LeUyen Pham's phenomenal illustrations really bring the story to life. I highly recommend this book to everyone!
