With Christmas just around the corner, Miss Melanie is offering a Holiday Make-It Take-It here at the Main Library today, Monday, December 19, from 4 to 7 PM. All the materials will be provided to make an awesome ornament like the ones shown in the picture below. But what if you can't make it? Don't worry, we are going to share the instructions with you for this month's Crafting with Kids!
These are super easy to make and really versatile. All you need are some old Christmas cards or cardstock, string, and some beads. You will also need scissors and glue.
First, cut four identical ornament shapes out of the Christmas cards or cardstock. Miss Melanie cut out circles, stars, and bulb ornaments.
Then, fold each of the shapes in half sideways so they crease like the finished ornament.
Place the four pieces together with the pretty pictures facing out to make the ornament 3-D. This can be tricky. You can glue one at a time if it's easier. Paperclips may also help to hold everything in place.
Glue the one plain side of a shape to a plain side of another shape, and repeat with the other two shapes.
To make your ornament hang, cut a piece of string about three times as long as your ornament. Fold it in half and tie the two ends together then glue it inside the middle of your ornament right before you glue the last two sides together. Make sure the knot is outside the bottom of the ornament and the loop end is at the top.
You can add beads to the string at the top of the ornament by threading them onto the loop and pushing them down against the top of the ornament so they don't come off.
Hang your ornament on a Christmas tree or whenever you want to share a little holiday spirit!
We hope you have a beautifully decorated holiday season!
