This month’s craft project comes from Miss Melanie at Main Library! Last month, Miss Melanie hosted a Treasure Jars craft program. The instructions for this project can be found on the Empress of Dirt garden blog. To complete your own treasure jar, you will need used glass jars with lids, flat-bottom marbles (also called ‘glass gems’) or small stones, and GE II Silicone Sealant. Miss Melanie tried different adhesives for attaching the stones to the jars, and advises that the silicone suggested works the best. Just be sure to follow the directions and have some patience! Here are some of the treasure jars made during the program:
If you like this craft project, check out some of the books we have here at the library using recycled glass and other eco-friendly materials. We also have two great stories about people who turned glass trash into art: Bottle Houses: The Creative World of Grandma Prisbrey by Melissa Eskridge Slaymaker and Dream Something Big: The Story of the Watts Towers by Dianna Hutts Aston. Enjoy!
