The Truth Inside
by Destiney Boyd, 10th Grade

I tried to scream;
I tried to call,
But no one enters through these walls.
I tried to run;
I tried to hide,
But no one finds the truth inside.
So now I watch the clock instead.
Five more minutes ‘til I’m dead.
I’m sitting in a cubby hole,
Big enough for me, and me alone.
The doctors say it won’t be long
Even though I pray they’re wrong.
My heart beats slow.
I’m losing my breath.
I can’t tell time,
But I know what’s left.
I tried to run;
I tried to hide,
But no one finds the truth inside.
I tried to scream;
I tried to fight,
But I can’t control what’s wrong and right.
This life was not how I thought it would be.
I thought there was room for little old me,
But I’ve lived five whole years,
And I know I shouldn’t cry any tears.
My life is five years young.
Gone.
