A Blind Day at the Beach
(Through My Eyes)
by Olivia Blubaugh, 7th Grade
At the beach in North Carolina,
the sand sizzles when my feet touch it.
And I can smell the salty ocean air
from the sand dunes.
The water is foaming and cold
as it tickles my toes.
Even the sound of the gulls and waves splashing
already has me dizzy with excitement.
The shells that I find are strange houses indeed.
The empty home leaves climbing staircases
for my fingers to explore.
I have felt the sea-worn glass
and read its past.
And the egg case of a shark
feels like leather to my observant touch.
Even though I cannot see,
I can feel the sun setting,
for the warmth of its light is slowly
sinking into the ocean.
