Trying to escape her middle school history with two treacherous frenemies, Charlie Healy enrolls in the neighboring high school, Harmony Falls, for her freshman year. This is Charlie’s chance for a clean slate. Unfortunately, her plan goes awry. One of the first people she meets at her new school is Will, Charlie’s best friend from childhood. Now he is popular and hot, adding a whole new difficult dimension to renewing their friendship. And then Charlie runs into Nidhi, the girl Charlie had a hand in humiliating back in eighth grade with her two frenemies. The drama Charlie was trying to escape by changing schools seems to have followed her.

And it just gets worse when Charlie and Will start hanging out together again. Will is on the lacrosse team, and as a freshman trying out for varsity, he is enduring more than his fair share of ritual humiliations. In fact, the lacrosse team’s behavior off the field is being called into question, leaving Charlie with a dilemma. Does she do what’s right, or because of her feelings for Will, should she protect him even knowing what he’s done?
