Boys, Bears, and a Serious Pair of Hiking Boots by Abby McDonald
Jenna’s life is her Green Teens organization in suburban New Jersey where she organizes petitions and protests to save what little green space remains. When it looks like her mom and dad may split up and decide to spend the summer apart, Jenna advocates for herself to spend the summer in the wilds of Canada with her godmother, Suzie, enjoying all the wildlife she so fervently tries to protect. But from the very first minute of her arrival in nowhere Canada, Jenna is made to feel unwelcome. Suzie’s very angry step-daughter is a couple hours late picking Jenna up from her bus stop, and after trekking down the one road, hopefully in the right direction, with all her worldly possessions in an overstuffed suitcase, Jenna is hot, tired, sore, and desperately in need of a bathroom. Later that night trying to make a positive impression with the local boys at a bonfire, Jenna somehow manages to alienate them too. Jenna’s only hope is an ancient guide she finds called The Modern Mountain Man's Survival Guide.
