Happy Birthday, Arthur Yorinks!

Today is Arthur Yorinks’s birthday!

Mr. Yorinks was born on August 21, 1953, and has many talents. He became interested in art at a young age, and went on to pursue this interest by entering the world of performing arts. Although he is known for his writing and directing work in opera, theater, film, radio, and dance, Mr. Yorinks has published many wonderful books for children.

Using imagination and humor, Mr. Yorinks creates lively books that have strong story lines and are great fun to read. My favorite is Tomatoes From Mars, although it is really hard to pick just one! Mr. Yorinks’s book Hey, Al, illustrated by Richard Egielski, won the Caldecott Medal in 1987, and he has paired up with several beloved children’s illustrators such as Maurice Sendak and William Steig to create awesome illustrations for his stories. Help us celebrate Mr. Yorinks’s birthday by stopping in and checking out one of his books today!
