Okay, Parent Zone Readers! Here’s a Random Book Sighting from Katie Gatten, Children’s Librarian at the Madison Branch! She wanted to rave about The Duchess of Whimsy by Randall De Seve and illustrated by Peter De Seve.
Here’s what Katie had to say:
“Families will enjoy this adorable book about a fancy Duchess and a plain Earl who find they are a perfect match. Written and illustrated by a married couple, the love they felt for the tale as they were producing it is apparent. I especially enjoyed the two little fairies whom you can find throughout the pages even though they aren’t involved in the storyline. They are based on the couple’s two daughters, and it is obvious how much love they feel for them based on their adorable illustrations. One of my new favorite stories! According to his website, Peter de Seve is also the one who is responsible for the creation of one of my family’s favorite animated characters, Scrat from the Ice Age movies. I can’t wait to see this couple’s next project!”
And the critics agree! School Library Journal has this to say about The Duchess of Whimsy:
“The visuals tell the tale as vividly as the prose. This is a sure winner and a nice break from routine princess stories.”
I hadn’t seen this book until Katie pointed it out to all of the Children’s Assistants and Librarians at M/RCPL, and I’m so glad she did! Thank you, Katie!
