August Book Reviews, Part 2

Scaredy Squirrel
from Miss Caroline at Main

What scares you?  Well, if you’re Scaredy Squirrel and living in a nut tree, things like tarantulas, green Martians, sharks, germs, poison ivy, and killer bees are terrifying!  Who knows what could happen if you were to meet such an intruder?

Canadian author and illustrator Melanie Watt introduces children to Scaredy Squirrel and shows us how he overcomes all of his fears, whether at home, at night, at the beach, during a birthday party, or while making friends.

Scaredy feels so much safer when he’s prepared for the unexpected with his well-stocked emergency kit, which includes things like a hard hat, a mask and rubber gloves, calamine lotion, a net, sardines, antibacterial soap, bug spray, a parachute, and Band-Aids.  It also helps to have a plan for emergencies.  This would definitely include a top secret exit plan with a reminder that, “if all else fails, playing dead is always a good option!”

Whether you are afraid of things like Scaredy Squirrel or just like reading about him, be sure to check out all of Scaredy’s other adventures.  You may just realize that the world is not such a scary place after all.
