June Book Reviews, Part 1

The Geronimo Stilton Series
from Miss Sarah at Bellville

Geronimo Stilton books are fun, exciting, and humorous.  Geronimo lives in New Mouse City on Mouse Island and runs a newspaper called the Rodent’s Gazette.  Geronimo is timid and cautious but he always seems to find adventure thanks to his outgoing sister Thea, sweet nephew Benjamin, and his risk-taking cousin Trap.

In the very first Geronimo Stilton book, “Lost Treasure of the Emerald Eye,” Geronimo gets dragged along on a treasure hunt with his sister Thea.  Their jokester cousin Trap comes along–much to Geronimo’s dismay–because they need him to sail their boat.  Benjamin sneaks aboard the ship even though he was told it was too dangerous for him.  Geronimo encounters a voyage full of trouble which includes falling overboard, getting sick while eating old clams, as well as being stranded on a deserted island.  It is always funny to find out how high-strung Geronimo and his wild crew get out of these crazy situations.

The books are especially eye catching because the font changes styles and colors to reflect what is going on in the story.  Reluctant readers seem to enjoy this series and like decoding the pop culture references from mouse lingo to human lingo; for example, New Mouse City instead of New York City and Mona Mousa instead of Mona Lisa.

Every book includes a map of the Rodent’s Gazette, New Mouse City, and Mouse Island as well as pictures and information about the main characters.  Every book in the series will certainly entertain the reader with its silliness especially since Geronimo is always on the receiving end of the jokes.

Since Geronimo has become so popular there are even books being written about his sister, Thea, and her five friends: Colette, Nicky, Pamela, Paulina and Violet.  Thea’s fabumouse friends decided to name their group after her: the Thea Sisters.  Each sister is from a different country and has a different personality.  For example, Colette is from France, has great ideas and lots of energy while Violet is from China, likes to try new things and pays attention to detail.

Thea and her friends have great adventures and get to explore wonderful places around the world like the Andes Mountain in Peru while looking for a missing archeologist.  Thea’s stories are always full of adventure, mystery and camaraderie.

There is even a Geronimo Stilton website featuring  games and puzzles to print out such as word scrambles, crossword puzzles, and word searches.  There is also an option to listen to one of the books for a couple minutes.

Here is a list of all the Geronimo Stilton books in order.
