What's New in AV
The AudioVisual (AV) Department at Main Library is sporting a brand new look and a brand new way of doing things.
The department underwent a significant remodel in February, in order to utilize the space better and make it easier for customers to find what they're looking for, or just to browse more easily through movies, music, and audiobooks.
Along with the new layout, we have a new process for checking out AV materials - everything gets checked out before customers leave the department. The library's switch to Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags makes this possible. RFID provides better inventory control for the library, and greater ease of use for our customers. Once movies and music are checked out in the AV department, customers don't have to worry about setting off alarms as they leave the building.
Some movies for very young children can be found in the Children's department. These movies can be checked out at the Circulation Desk, they don't have to be checked out in AV.
The final piece in the remodel will be self-check stations, where customers may check out their own items, if they wish. Several will be located in the AV department, and one will be located in the Circulation department. Look for those to be up and running in the next several weeks.
