Library Literacy Connection
Welcome to the Library Literacy Connection - not a school,
but a world open to learning for adults, founded in 1992. What better
place than a public library for a person to learn to read? With the help
of library staff and trained volunteers, nearly two hundred adults have
learned to read or improved their reading skills in a setting with diverse
offerings ranging from one-to-one tutoring and multimedia learning packs
to books of poetry and the World Wide Web.
Each tutor/learner pair is working with a unique plan
at their own pace, using materials that are interesting and useful to
the learner. Our adult learners are a diverse group. Some are people who
were kept from being educated years ago, due to racial and/or economic
factors; others are people who graduated from high school, but somehow
never really learned to read in the process. We offer these learners help
by using techniques and materials that
work for them. We all continue to learn by
doing.
Adults in the community who are interested in self
education without a tutor are also welcome to use the Adult
Learning Center, which has materials on many subjects, in a variety
of formats, to meet the needs of people with different learning styles
and interests. Whether you are looking for fun ways to encourage your
children to read more, or you need simply written information about careers
that don't require college, you may find some things of interest in the
Adult Learning Center.
Connect us with someone you know
who wants to learn.
Our number is 419 521-3114.
