Adults talk about learning to read.

Section One - Learn by Doing

Jonathan - "somehow I can read diagrams and instructions without all the words..."

Lois - "I hunt books that have a lot going on that is like my life and how they brought themselves out."

Bobby - "I felt bad, because while I was in class, someone else had to do my job..."

Mary - "It's frustrating to walk around and not know how to read. I thought about it all the time. It's like you're in a different country."

Ray and Bob - This team has been working on creating a plan for the future through renewal and recovery.

Caroline - "It got to the point where I was called stupid so much I could not even talk!"

Earl - "There are so many people like me that want it and don't know how to get it. Need to be pushed in the first step or so. It's very important. doggon very important."

Mary and Mary - "... their success lies in their steady persistence as they continue to learn that there is yet more to learn."

Section Two - Learning by Teaching

Marian - "Teaching someone to read is like nurturing a flower. When someone learns to read it's like watching a flower bloom."

Kim - "It's so inspiring to assist a person who is so eager and willing to work so hard to learn."

Victoria Rose - "Pride is the obstacle here that just makes the whole process harder."

Mildred - "We can't cure the whole world, but people are coming here because there is something wrong and it needs fixing."

Emily - "That friendship that grows between tutor and learner is what makes the program so special - and so effective. It's thrilling; really!"

Chris - "This effort and accomplishments made have brought tears to my eyes!"

Gary - "The potential of what is going to happen here is keeping me enthusiastic about it... I'm enjoying doing it because I'm enjoying the challenge."

Margy - "If someone can enjoy reading more, then the world is a better place."
