Book Review: Some Pets

Some Pets by Angela DiTerlizzi
From Miss Jennifer at Main Library

Do you like animals?  Do you have a pet?  Some Pets by Angela DiTerlizzi offers up some great entertainment with a story that centers on the animals at a pet show.  The story ultimately reminds us of the special bond between pet and owner and the happiness pets can bring to us.

Some Pets is a great read aloud, perfect for sharing with your favorite young child. The wonderful and varied vocabulary provides a perfect learning opportunity.  Vocabulary is one of the 6 essential skills in early literacy so this book is great for a library story time, preschool classroom or for sharing with your own young child.

Illustrator Brendan Wenzel captures our attention and imagination with eye catching illustrations.  The detailed humorous pictures give readers the opportunity to engage in discussing what’s going on beyond the simple rhythmic text.

This book can also be a useful tool as a family explores getting a first pet.  The author and illustrator share an important note on the final page of the book reminding families of both the responsibility and joy of pets.  Come with me to the pet show!  Join me in reading Some Pets
