Happy Birthday David Shannon!
A very special happy birthday to David Shannon! Who is David Shannon you may ask? You may know one of his characters better: David. More specifically, David from No David!
David Shannon went to art school and wanted to be an artist, but then he began to illustrate books. After awhile, he started writing AND illustrating books. One of his first books that he made was when he was five. On every page were pictures of David doing things he was not supposed to do and these words: No, David! They were the only words he knew how to spell! Many years later, when his mother sent him that book, Shannon was inspired to write and illustrate his now-classic bestseller and Caldecott Honor Book No, David! Yes, David in No David! is David Shannon himself as a little kid.
Of course, David Shannon has written more than just the David books. Some other favorites from the children section include: A Bad Case of Stripes, a story about a girl who is nervous about her first day of school, and she comes down with a bad case of the stripes- and more! Duck on a Bike, about a duck who thinks he's pretty cool while riding his bike around the farm yard, but all the other farm animals are puzzled. Too Many Toys! is about a little boy whose house is FULL of toys, but his mom wants him to get rid of some... who will win in this battle of wills?
All of his books are funny and well drawn, please help us celebrate David Shannon's birthday by checking out one of his books from the library!!!
