Story Time Starter: Pigs

August 24, 2016

Pigs.  Are they cute?  Are they ugly?  So ugly they're cute?  So cute they're ugly?  Well, we don't care!  We love pigs at the library!  Pigs are such a fun topic to do a story time, we wanted to share our favorite books, rhymes, songs, and crafts to get you started!

The library has a bunch of books featuring pigs that are some much fun to share with little ones!  Pigs by Gail Gibbons, The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by Jon Sciezka, Pigs in Love by Teddy Slater, The Three Ninja Pigs by Corey Rosen Schwartz, Pigs to the Rescue by John Himmelman, Pigs Make Me Sneeze by Mo Willems, and Hogwash by Karma Wilson are just a few of our favorites!

Here are some of our favorite rhymes and songs:

To Market

To market, to market to buy a fat pig,

Home again, home again, jiggity-jig!

To market, to market to buy a fat hog,

Home again, home again, jiggity-jog!

Pigs in the Mud (Tune of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat")

Roll, roll, roll around

In the mud all day.

That is what the pigs all do.

What a way to play

Roll, roll, roll around

That is how they stay,

Oh, so very nice and cool

On a sunny day!

This Little Piggy

This little piggy went to market,

This little piggy stayed home,

This little piggy had roast beef,

and this little piggy had none.

This little piggy went...

Wee, wee, wee,

All the way home!

Finally, here are some fun crafts to do together:

Pig Snout

Pom Pom Pigs

Pig Golf Ball
