Children's Book Week

May 2, 2016

It’s here!  It’s finally here! Happy Children’s Book Week everybody!

What is Children’s Book Week?  Well…

Children’s Book Week was established in 1919, it is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country. Every year, commemorative events are held nationwide at schools, libraries, bookstores, homes – wherever young readers and books connect

People everywhere celebrate Children’s Book Week, but in 2008, the Children’s Choice Book Awards Program was created to provide young readers with an opportunity to voice their opinions about the books being written for them and to develop a reading list that will motivate children to read more and cultivate a life-long love of reading.

Even though voting is through for the Children Choice Book Award, anyone can vote for their favorite book to win the award!  There are three age categories:  K-2nd Grade, 3rd-4th Grade, and 5th-6th Grade.  You can vote here.

Here are some of the nominees from these three categories:

Stick and Stone

Sick Simon

Funny Bones: Posada and His Day of the Dead Calaveras

I’m Trying to Love Spiders

The Terrible Two

There is also a page filled with activity sheets for little ones, which you can find here!  We hope you have a wonderful Children’s Book Week, we know we will!
