Book Review: The Charmed Children of Rookskill Castle
The Charmed Children of Rookskill Castle by Janet Fox
From Miss Jennie at Ontario Branch
A few weeks ago, as I was looking through some new books, I came across one in particular that caught my eye. I thought that the title was interesting, and the review on the front read, “An enchanting, ghostly read.” I love ghost stories – and so I checked it out! The Charmed Children of Rookskill Castle by Janet Fox takes place in 1940 during World War II in England. Because of the bombings on the city by the Germans, many families were sending their children out of the country to keep them safe. This is how the three Bateson children ended up at an old haunted castle in Scotland.
Without giving too much of the story away, I loved that there were actually two different stories unfolding throughout the book. There was the story of the Bateson children in the haunted castle; and also the story of how the lady of the castle, Lady Eleanor, became a witch. Full of action, adventure, magic, sorcery, Nazi spies, sword fights, kidnappings and of course ghosts, this book was one I couldn’t put down!
