Christmas Story Time Starter

December 22, 2015

It may not look very Christmassy outside, but that doesn’t mean that we haven’t been feeling the holiday spirit at the library! There are so many wonderful Christmas and holiday books out there, that we wanted to share some of our favorite for this month’s story time starter!

Some fun books to read aloud with your little ones are Santa Duck and His Merry Helpers by David Milgrim, The Night the Lights Went Out on Christmas by Ellis Paul, Bear Stays Up for Christmas by Karma Wilson, Dear Santa, Love Rachel Rosenstein by Amanda Peet, and The Night Before Christmas by Clement C. Moore.

Here are a few rhymes to go along with books:

Jingle Bells

Dashing through the snow
On a one horse open sleigh
O'er the fields we go,
Laughing all the way
Bells on bob tail ring,
making spirits bright
What fun it is to laugh and sing
A sleighing song tonight

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

Reindeer Pokey

You put your antlers in. You put your antlers out.
You put your antlers in and you shake them all about.
You do the Reindeer Pokey and you turn yourself around.
That’s what it’s all about!

Additional verses:
You put your hooves in…
You put your red nose in…
You put your fluffy tail in…
You put your reindeer body in…
