Crafting with Kids: Pinecone Owls
This month's craft takes ordinary pinecones and turns them into super cute individualized owls! Miss Melanie had a group create these extra special critters last month.
You can make one for yourself!
You'll need different shapes and sizes of pinecones (rounded ones and long skinny ones), google eyes, bits of colorful felt or foam to cut beaks and feet out of, natural or colored feathers, scrap fabric, leftover quilt batting, and white craft glue.
- Experiment by putting bits and pieces of batting into the crevasses of the pinecone.
- You can also stick feathers in to make it look more realistic or drape a piece of fabric over the entire pinecone.
- Cut a beak and feet out of the felt or foam and glue those to the pinecone.
- Attach the google eyes and make eye shapes from the felt or foam to make the eyes stand out.
Glue the eyes to the pinecone, and POOF!, you've got your very own pinecone owl!
Read a couple of owl stories after making your own owls for an activity that is sure to please.
