Story Time Starter - Pizza & Pasta

November 12, 2015

“My love is pizza shaped. Won’t you have a slice? It’s circular, so there’s enough to go around.
”

Bread, cheese, and tomatoes, is there a better food combination?  There might be, but something we can all agree on is that pizza and pasta are delicious!  We love to celebrate food at the library, so our story time starter for this month is all to do with pizza and pasta!

Some fun books to read aloud with your little ones are Pete's a Pizza by William Steig, On Top of Spaghetti by Paul Brett Johnson, Hi, Pizza Man! by Virginia Walter, and Strega Nona (just to name a few).  These books are guaranteed  for multiple readings!

Here are a few rhymes to go along with all these books:

Pizza Man

Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, pizza man (clap hands)
Make me a pizza as fast as you can (shake fingers)
Roll it! (pretend to roll pizza)
Toss it! (pretend to toss pizza in the air)
Sprinkle it with cheese! (sprinkling motion)
Put it in the oven, (pushing motion)
And bake it fast, please!

If You Want to Eat Some Pizza
(Tune of If You're Happy and You Know It)

If you want to eat some pizza, raise your hand.
If you want to eat some pizza, raise your hand.
If you like bubbly cheese,
Then just say, "pizza please!"
If you want to eat some pizza, raise your hand.
(Repeat with: rub your tummy and shout hooray)

Here's some music that we love:
