Happy Birthday, Betsy Snyder!

September 10, 2015

Today's author and illustrator birthday belongs to Betsy Snyder, who is an Ohioan through and through! After studying art at the University of Dayton, Betsy found herself working as a graphic designer and illustrator at various places and ended up at American Greetings. In 2007, after leaving that phase of her life, she became a children's book author and illustrator. She currently lives near Cleveland and is practically our neighbor!

Poetry (haiku, especially) is near and dear to Ms. Snyder's heart, with Haiku Baby and I Haiku You both sharing that exuberance in exactly three lines and only seventeen syllables, with the first and last lines containing five syllables, and the middle line containing seven syllables. Those three lines of haiku create a picture of words that is most often inspired by the natural world.

Other books written and illustrated by Betsy Snyder include Have You Ever Tickled a Tiger? and Sweet Dreams Lullaby. She also created the illustrations for Peanut Butter and Jellyfishes by Brian P. Cleary, Don't Throw That Away by Laura Bergen, and It's a Firefly Night by Dianne Ochiltree.

Whether you celebrate by creating your own lovely end-of-summer haiku or by using recycled materials to create something new, enjoy your day learning more about today's birthday girl!
