SLP Wrap Up
Where has the summer gone? We are in our last week of the Summer Library Program already! And it's been a great summer here at the library!
We saw awesome performances by Dave Lehman, Jungle Bob, Mike Hemmelgarn, Jim Cruise the Spoon Man, Superhero Storyteller Lindsay Bonilla, and rock star T. Rex. We also learned a lot about different heroes, including animals heroes, community heroes, kid heroes, and, of course, superheroes!
We have also been doing a lot of reading! Here at Main Library, we have had 1,326 sign-ups for SLP! That is a lot of kids and doesn't include the hundreds that signed up at one of our branches! If each child filled out only one reading record, they would have read 139,230 minutes, or 2320 hours! But many have turned in more, even all five, reading records, so they have read more than 100 days straight! What a great way to spend the summer.
This year, we are celebrating the end of SLP with a bang--or rather, a splash! Be sure to join us this Saturday, August 1 from 1 to 3 PM at Marshall Park for SLP Splash! We will have games, crafts, snacks, balloon animals, face painting, water relays, visiting super heroes, and a fire truck to get everyone wet!
We will also have prizes and prize books out until closing Saturday at all library locations for anyone who still needs to turn in reading records or stamp a visit to finish the program. And for everyone who has already finished, don't forget to keep reading! Thanks for helping us make this a great summer!
