Book Review: The Amazing Age of John Roy Lynch

July 7, 2015

The Amazing Age of John Roy Lynch by Chris Barton and illustrated by Don Tate

From Miss Melanie at Main Library

Here's our next book review from Miss Melanie.  She's got an interesting book about a true hero in history, John Roy Lynch, to share with us.

"A fascinating biography about a slave that had an Irish father and African mother and who became a U.S.Congressman in just 10 years, by the age of 25.

"I learned so much about the history of Reconstruction (1865-1877), the 12 years following the Civil War, and why it took 100 years after emancipation of the slaves for the civil rights movement to occur."

This book is recommended for ages 7-10 and their adults.

Thanks for a great review, Miss Melanie! Find The Amazing Age of John Roy Lynch in our catalog, and see what else Chris Barton has written for children. Want to know more about the Reconstruction? We've got books on that, too!
