Summer Library Program 2015 Is Here!
Summer is here at the library! And our theme for summer, "Every Hero Has a Story," will bring out the superhero in everyone!
Every June, we launch our Summer Library Program, also known as SLP, for children aged birth to sixth grade. This 8-week program is all about reading, earning prizes, and having fun! We have some awesome performers visiting us, and lots of great programs throughout the week. From testing your superhero powers and catching the bad guys to learning about some super animals and maybe even meeting them in person, we have something for everyone. And if superheroes aren't your thing, we are also excited to host a magician, juggler, and a "rock star!"
Even with all of the fun things going on at the library this summer, our main goal is to encourage kids to keep reading during summer break. Studies show that reading is a key factor in preventing "summer slide," or learning loss over summer vacation. We encourage kids to read what they want, when they want, so that they enjoy reading and are ready for school to start in the fall. We really value summer reading and hope you do, too!
SLP officially starts Monday, June 8, but you can come in this Thursday, Friday, or Saturday to sign up and get a schedule of all the programs we are offering this summer. We will have a scavenger hunt next week, and the programs and performers begin the following week. And don't forget that teens and adults have their own Summer Library Programs, too! We hope to see you at the library this summer!
