National Physical Fitness & Sports Month

May is National Physical Fitness & Sports Month!  How will you celebrate?  If you're like us, you're just happy it's finally nice enough to enjoy the outdoors again, right?!

Here at the library we've got books about specific sports, books that teach the importance of exercise and how it relates to wellness, and stories about kids and families having fun while participating in sports.

Check out some of our top picks, with books on soccer, football, baseball, and basketball, as well as exercise in general.

Other ideas to get out and get moving include

  • using your smartphone to track the number of steps you take each day, aiming for at least 10,000

  • taking the stairs rather than the elevator whenever possible

  • engaging your family in outdoor activities like a nature hike, a bike ride, or a walk around the block

  • encouraging your family to try new sports or to play outdoor games together
