Book Review: Blizzard

Blizzard by John Rocco
From Miss Melia at Main Library

Winter usually brings snow, right? But what if it brought so much snow you couldn’t open your front door? And all of the schools were shut down for a week? And you couldn’t find your driveway or even the road? And you ran out of food?

Blizzard by John Rocco tells a story of a time when it snowed, and snowed and snowed and snowed, so much that these things actually happened. Told from a young boy’s vantage point, Blizzard is based on the author’s real-life experiences during the blizzard of 1978. Snowed in for a week, the boy first thinks the blizzard is pretty cool. But then he realizes he and his family can't go anywhere, and they are running out of food. So he decides to venture out into the snow-covered neighborhood on a quest for supplies. The story is simple but the illustrations really make the narrative come to life.

Here at the library, we have several other books by John Rocco and lots a books about blizzards for you to enjoy whether there is snow on the ground or not!
