Crafting With Kids: Geography Awareness Week

November 20, 2014

This week, November 16-22, marks Geography Awareness Week, and we've got a great craft idea to share with you.  Miss Melanie had a map activity program last month and after reading some books, she brought out some old maps and recycled containers.  Using those materials, plus some glue, extra craft items, and their imaginations, the kids had a good time creating something new, and many went home with their own unique creations.

Here are a few pictures of the kids in action:

National Geographic has some terrific resources to get you started on your own celebration this week.  Discovery Education also has some lesson plans for teachers or homeschoolers.  We've got some great books for you to use as well.  One, in particular, has a ton of fun projects and hands-on activities for children to explore the world.  Geography Crafts for Kids is available right now in our collection!  National Geographic's Angry Birds Playground Atlas also offers a popular way to learn about the world.

Have fun this week learning about the world with these and other cool geography activities!
