Book Review: Gathering Blue
Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry
From Miss Devin at Lexington Branch
Here's what Miss Devin has to say:
"A lot of people have read the modern classic The Giver or have seen the new movie. Well, did you know it is actually the first of a quartet (which includes The Giver, Gathering Blue, Messenger and Son)? Gathering Blue, the second in the series, is just as captivating and intriguing as the first. This book is centered around Kira, a young girl with a twisted leg, who is seen as inferior to the rest of the village. When her mother dies she is left to fend for herself in a society that is cruel and brutal.
"Like Jonas in The Giver, Kira ends up with a great responsibility and a great talent. She helps to restore the past by repairing a sewn robe that holds the village’s memories. She finds a few friends that have been asked to do similar tasks. Will they show the real future they see or the future the council wants them to create?
"Gathering Blue does not pick up where The Giver left off; Kira has her own story to tell. In fact, it never even mentions Jonas… or does it? You’ll have to pick it up at the library to find out!"
Thanks for another great review, Miss Devin!
