For the first time in her life, Cyd Charisse (not the famous flapper) has to choose between her true love and New York City. She made her choice when said true love, Shrimp, proposed to her, and she realized that the two of them had separate paths of life they wanted to travel. While she pined for the cold, rushed excitement that was New York, her Shrimp longed to surf New Zealand.

After going their different ways, CC found that the Big Apple was everything she’d dreamed it to be—minus Shrimp, of course. The couple’s clean break turned out to be much more difficult than ever fathomed, and CC and her surfer boyfriend come to terms that their mature, responsible decision may not have been as mature and responsible as they’d thought.

This witty read is fulfilling and leaves the audience silent at the final page to ponder over CC’s last narrating words.

Cupcake is a coming-of-age story like no other—read it. (Now!)
