Book Review
The Declaration
by Gemma Malley
This book starts with a diary entry from Anna, who is 15 and condemned to live as a servant. She is content to be told what to do because she believes that her birth is a burden on Earth now that people can live forever. Then another Surplus comes and turns her world upside down. Peter, with his controversial ideas and condemning point of view doesn’t fit in at Grange Hall, and that’s the only thing a person can do to avoid The Authorities or death. Peter tells her stories of the outside world, of how her parents long to find her, and of how he has come to rescue her. Now Anna has a choice to make, leave all she has ever known to embark on a law-breaking escape or stay where her fate will always be ruled by another.
