Think you know all about these holidays?  Come into any branch of the library during the month of December and see if you’re right.  We’ll have a poster with customs from each of these holidays and your challenge will be to match the custom to the correct holiday.  Turn your entry in for a chance to win Cinemark movie passes.  Mazel Tof!!

Holiday Gift Workshop

Handcrafted items are among the most treasured gifts received.  Join us to make two gifts using ceramic tiles, rubber stamps, ink, magnets, and tissue paper.  You will also decorate the wrapping as well.  All instructions and supplies will be provided.  Klutz-friendly assistance will be available.  Sign up is required.

Christmas Angel Workshop (Fourth Annual)

Come to the 4th Annual Christmas Angel Workshop and learn how to make various sized wire angels that can be used as ornaments, pins, tree or table toppers. Angel snacks will be provided.

Decorate Your Space: Fleece Pillows

 We’ll show you how to make a cuddly fleece pillow for your bedroom using fleece, fiber fill, and knots.  No sewing skills are required.  Instructions and supplies will be provided.  Klutz-friendly assistance will be available.  Sign up is required.

Ring in the New Year Trivia

Celebrated around the world at different times, New Year’s Day usually holds the promise of excitement for things yet to come.  See how much you know about the history and traditions of the oldest of all holiday celebrations. Turn in a completed entry form any time during the month of January and for a chance to win gift certificates to Cinemark in the drawing from all completed forms.

Join us for this read-a-thon and choose from a menu of adventure, romance, and/or science fiction and pizza, pop, and/or junk food to enjoy while you read.  Bring your bean bag chair, your favorite pillow, or sleeping bag, and see if you have what it takes to read for 4 straight hours.  Prizes will be awarded to the top teen marathon readers at each location.  Sign up now to reserve your spot.

Take Your Best Shot! Photo Contest

Rules:

  1. Photos may not be larger than 8”x10.”
  2. Only one photo may be entered in each category.
  3. Do not mat photos.

Prizes: 1st and 2nd place will be awarded in the three different categories.  1st place prize is $25.00; 2nd place is $15.00.  Winners will be chosen by Friday, Feb. 29, and prizes will be mailed the following week.
Entries will be on display through Friday, March 7, and may be picked up at the Reference Desk or Branch Library beginning on Monday, March 10.

Red Cross Babysitting Training Course
Sat. Feb. 9  Bellville 10:30 AM –2:30 PM
Ages 11-15 years. 
No exceptions – participants must be at least 11 years old.
This course will teach the responsibilities and qualities of being a good babysitter, first aid and basic care skills, and what to expect from the person who hires you.  For the all-day course, please bring a bag lunch and a drink.  Sign up is required.

ACT/SAT Strategy Session
Tue. Feb 12     Madison          6 PM

Cheryl Welch, Ph.D. from the Sylvan Learning Center will present an overview of how to raise ACT/SAT test scores.  You'll find out whether it is wise to leave questions blank, how to best guess, how to ace hard reading problems even when you are stuck in a difficult passage, and how to turn a tricky algebra problem into simple arithmetic.  Find out what the differences are in the ACT and SAT and how to decide which one you should take.  Parents are encouraged to attend with their student.
