Volume 9   Issue 1 Teen Advisory Board News

Bio: Elizabeth

Hey, ya’ll!  I’m Elizabeth.  I’ve been on the board for four years now and have loved every minute of it.  I’m a sophomore at Plymouth High School and as such, I am as busy as anyone else my age or older.  Including the Teen Advisory Board, I’m also a senior in Girl Scouts, part of Young Leadership Institute, President of my class, Secretary to my FCCLA chapter, part of our Modern Language Club, and a volunteer at my own local library.  Man, just listing all that stuff sounds exhausting.  My favorite season is fall, and I love Halloween, especially ghosts and ghouls.  My pastimes, when I have time, are reading and writing.  In school, I’m a smart kid, but definitely not perfect.  My least favorite subjects would have to be health and chemistry (only because it’s a hard class, not because of the math).  And my favorite beyond favorite of subjects (those classes that make it worth coming to school) are Algebra II and Creative Writing.  That’s really all there is to me.  I’m not as interesting on paper as I am in real life, trust me.

Book Review:
The House of the Scorpion

by Nancy Farmer

Matt is a clone.  He’s accepted that fact.  On the Alacran Estate, Matt is virtually alone, with the exception of a few friends.  One of them is himself.  Matteo Alacran, called El Patron, is a drug lord who owns a strip of land between the United States and Mexico that is covered with poppies.  El Patron is also 142 years old.  One day, when Matt is just a teenager, he is informed of his purpose.  El Patron has fallen ill, and he is in need of a new heart, to be harvested from Matt.  Matt refuses, but is his refusal enough to save his life?

Musings:
Here’s a list for thought.

  • ”I do not suffer from insanity—I enjoy every minute of it.”
  • ”Insanity is doing something the same way every time and expecting different results.”
  • ”A man with one watch always knows the time; a man with two is not so sure.”
  • ”Future Mondays are enemies you just haven’t met yet.”
  • ”The grass many be greener on the other side, but doesn’t that make your grass greener than somebody else’s?”
  • Always remember this; in physics, what goes up must come down.  In life, it goes the other way too.”
  • ”I never tell anyone how clever I am.  If I did, they would be too scared.”
  • ”When you say something sucks, someone always tells you that that isn’t physically possible.  They obviously have perfect lives.”
  • ”Just because you want to hit someone, doesn’t mean you should.  But if no one’s around to see it, did it really happen?”
  • ”Ever wonder how we come across to the crazy people?”
  • ”Your eyes are the way to the truth.
  • Your ears are the way to deceit,  But you alone can decide which to listen to.”
