Bruce Coville was born
in Syracuse, New York, on May 16, 1950. He has lived there nearly
all his life. As a child, Bruce loved to watch TV.
The first time he seriously considered becoming a writer was when
he was in the 6th grade. His teacher gave a class assignment to
write a long story.
He started
writing seriously when he was seventeen. His books didn't sell
right away. To support his writing, Bruce worked as a toy maker,
grave digger, cookware salesman, assembly-line worker, and finally
an elementary school teacher.
He married Katherine Dietz when he was nineteen. Katherine is
an artist. They have three kids, ages twenty-two, twenty-seven,
and thirty-two.
