The library's web site at http://www.mrcpl.org is a great place to begin looking for help with lesson plans. You can access our library catalog to see what materials areavailable on your subject, then use the Assignment Alert form to let us know what your class is doing. Our programs and services are explained on the web site with a calendar to aid in your planning. Visit us on the Web.

Assignment Alert
Help us help your students

To give your students the best chance for completing an assignment, please help us give your students the best possible service.

Give us a call before you give a library assignment, or use our Assignment Alert form on our web site. If we have advance notice, we can make more materials available for students.
Check out the library before you give an assignment to make sure that information needed is available.
Ask for a reserve shelf when a large number of students need to use the same materials.
Give students a choice of topics. If they are looking for a variety of subjects, students have a better chance of finding what they need

If we work together, your students will be able to get what they need at the library.

Research Databases

The library has several research databases available on our web site that can be used to find valid resources for assignments or lesson plans right from school or home. Information from magazines, journals, newspapers, reference books, and even test prep sources can be found. You will need your library card number to access these databases. These enrichment programs will enhance your students’ understanding of lessons taught in the classroom. Call your local library at least three weeks in advance to schedule a program.

For Grades K-6

The Art of Illustration
Learn about the different art forms used in children’s picture books and about the Caldecott Award given for book illustration. (grades K-5)

A Newbery Sampler
Learn about the Newbery Award and hear booktalks from an assortment of Newbery winning books. (grades 4-6)

Folktales and Fairy Tales
Enjoy the richness of familiar and updated versions of our favorite childhood stories. (grades K-5)

Poetry Pizzazz
Open the door to new adventures as we explore the art of poetry.
(grades 3-6)

Discovering Richland County
Expose your students to the history of Richland County and explore the area today. (grades 4-6)

Let's Go Ohio
What makes Ohio special? We will highlight interesting facts about Ohio and encourage students to discover more. (grades 3-6)

Amazing Authors   Investigate the life and works of the author of your choice. (grades K-6)

Multicultural Stories
Pack your bags and take a trip around the world as we discover stories from many lands. (grades K-5)

Story Theater
Participate in the art of Picture Telling by illustrating and telling a story as a group. (grades 1-6)

Booktalks
Get your students excited about reading with booktalks from a selection of books on a theme of your choice.

Library Orientation
Discover the resources available at the library and learn how to find them with a guided tour and introduction.

Class Research Projects Bring your class to the Library to research those special projects via the library's electronic resources. Call Diana Skinner at 419-521-3112 to schedule a visit to the Main Library or call your local branch.

Webtalk
Explore web sites especially selected to enhance students' understanding of your lessons. To schedule this technology program, call Deborah Dubois at 419-522-3001 for grades K-6 or Diana Skinner at 419-521-3112 for grades 7-12.

Teacher Packs
Call your local library one week in advance to request a selection of books to check out for your classroom. Seasonal items may be limited due to popular demand.

You must teach in a Richland County School (with the exception of Shelby)
You must have a valid M/RCPL Library Card
Your Library Card must be in good standing

To apply for a Teacher Card:

Bring your school ID, pay stub or proof that you work in a Richland County School
Bring your M/RCPL Library Card
Bring two forms of identification, one with your current address if you do not have a valid M/RCPL Library Card

The following items can be checked out for 6 weeks on a Teacher Card (with no renewals):

Audio Books on Tape
CD-ROMs

These items can be checked out for 1 week on a Teacher Card:

Informational and Entertainment Videos
Informational DVDs

These items cannot be checked out on a Teacher Card:

Fines will be charged for overdue materials. The replacement fee for up to two books may be waived, but you will need to pay for any audio-visual materials that are lost. Let us know immediately if any items are lost.

BookNews
BookNews is a newsletter sent by email to teachers and school librarians three or four times during the school year. BookNews details happenings at the Library, new services or materials, and information from professional journals of interest to educators. If you would like to receive BookNews by email, send your name, email address, and the name of your school to booknews@mrcpl.org.

Booklists
We can put together lists of materials on a particular topic for groups. Contact Deborah Dubois at 419-522-3001 for grades K-6 or Diana Skinner at 419-521-3110 for grades 7-12 at least one month in advance to request a booklist.

Speaker/Workshops
We can speak to your group about library services and materials or other topics related to the library and reading. Great for parent groups, teacher in-service or special school events. Contact Deborah Dubois or Diana Skinner to schedule a speaker or workshop for your group.
