Dear Parents:
Learning to read is an exciting time for a child and his parents. Sometimes it can be difficult to choose the right books for a new reader. The Mansfield/ Richland County Public Library has created four sections in our Reader Collection to make it easier to find a book for your beginning reader.
Pre-emergent:
These books have a white label on the spine. They contain few words, large print pictures.
Emergent:
These books have an orange label on the spine. they have more text than the pre-emergent books, but still have large print, plenty of white space and repetition of vocabulary.
Early Fluent:
These books have a green label on the spine. They have smaller print, fewer pictures and more advanced vocabulary and storylines.
Fluent:
These books have a blue labelon the spine. They have more complex ideas and advanced vocabulary.
Each of these sections has a variety of books to challenge your new reader and help him develop his reading skills.
