Getting Fit for the Fun of It
The beginning of the New Year brings out resolutions in all of us. A common resolution is to get in shape. But how do you get your family involved and actually stick to your resolution to get fit?
Make it fun: exercise can be fun as well as good for you. If you do things your family enjoys, then you’ll be more likely to do them. Here are some tips for getting your whole family fit—for the fun of it.
- Walk your child to school
- Involve the whole family in a fun physical activity; it may not be an actual sport, but just have fun together
- Make short-term and long-term goals for keeping track of progress
- Have a “Family Olympics” day and let each member of the family pick an activity for each person to try
- Get out the chalk and have a hopscotch tournament in the driveway
- Think outside the box for activities like raking leaves, dancing, or playing hide-and-seek
- Be an active role model for your family: the more they see you exercise, the more they will want to follow your lead
